These last few days have focused on the life, death, and burial of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth II and of course our new king Charles the Third. The Queen was a woman of sterling qualities; kindness, integrity, wisdom, humour and so one can go on without fear of contradiction. Above all though was her Christian faith which guided her all the days of her life. It was a deep-rooted faith based on her simple belief in the words of the Bible. During the services much was said about her faith and Christian beliefs.
During the service the Archbishop of Canterbury focused on eternal life after death, the central message of traditional Christian Funerals. That is an amazing statement and fundamental to the Christian faith. Death is not the end, yes, the end of this life but the entrance to eternal life. It is a sobering thought that after this life we all must meet a holy and righteous God and the question comes, ‘Are we ready to meet Him?’. There is no doubt that the Queen was ready for this but why was that? Was it because she was Queen or because she was an exceptionally good person; she certainly was that but that is not the reason. The reason is that she realised that she was a sinner not by the standards of this world but by Divine standards. She then came to put her own faith in the Lord Jesus who loved her and died to bear the punishment for her sins.
This sacrifice of Christ is available for all and can only be received by simply coming to God, confessing our sin, and believing that all our sins will be forgiven. Why not do it today?
